checkSE.sh

i fokkin’ hate unstable and resource-swallowing synthedit/synthmaker stuff, so i often use this simple script (linux) to check if a plugin .dll is made with synthedit: (in addition to looking for a subdirectory with a bunch of sem/sep files):

#!/bin/bash
strings $1 | grep SynthEdit

if it prints out anything, it’s a SE plug, and into the trash it goes. not interested…

now if i could make something similar for synthmaker, things would be very good…

i could of course just ignore them, not download them, but plugin authors often don’t mention that their creations are made with these tools, and, if you start playing around wtth it, and have some inspirational moments, kaboom!! your daw crashes, and you lose everything, all those hours wasted.. so, i would rather not take the chances.. and you can even risk not being able to open previous project files if you forget to render to audio and delete the plugins before saving… additionally most of it is generic sound-the-same crap anyway…

panem et circenses

iam pridem, ex quo suffragia nulli uendimus, effudit curas; nam qui dabat olim imperium, fasces, legiones, omnia, nunc se continet atque duas tantum res anxius optat, panem et circenses.

axonlib #1

i’m setting up a new page with various audio related code projects i’m working on

http://sites.google.com/site/ccernnaudio/

that will eventually replace other temporary stuff i’ve put out, like:

http://cern.linux.vst.googlepages.com/
http://sites.google.com/site/jesuccernn/

i have 4 or 5 plugins ready now, and will package them properly with source code and everything, make some example projects, some tutorials, how-to’s, some presets, and then upload them in a few days.

expect something else than your boring, typical eq and dynamics stuff. not for hifi freaks, but for the experimental people, fort those that have an open and explorative mind… :-)

long time…

it’s been a long time… quite a lot of projects going on at the moment:

manes(ss): we’re working on a couple of things, don’t know what format or where they will be released. can’t say too much about it (yet), will get back to this in a few days.

kkoagulaa: the first album “aurum nostrum non est aurum vulgi” to be released by aural music in a not too distant future. one long piece, heavy on art, mind and concept. a cooperation between me and p emerson williams (333), with a few guests.

axonlib: plug/app code library, coming along nicely, made a few example vst(i) plugins already, quite easy to port my js plugins now, working more on the gui, as well as some modular stuff.

and i’ve also got a few unnamed projects/ideas in my head, that i want to do something with..

that’s all i want to say at the moment. but, now that i’ve re-broken the ice, i will post more regularly, more spontaneous, more sketches… stop doubting, just press ‘publish’

so, soon…

minus mono again

a new ubuntu release (more about this in another post soon), and yet again:

sudo apt-get purge libmono0 mono-common

54mb saved, very, very good, but the most important thing is the peace of mind… and who wants tomboy or fspot anyway?

filetype:torrent

seems like the pirate bay have been convicted for “making illegal things searchable”. but, try this search term in google:

"fallout 3" filetype:torrent

over 800 hits, click and download. who needs the pirate bay? why not sue google too?!! i can find illegal stuff there!! i didn’t bother trying live or yahoo (since they’re both crap), but i guess its the same… why not sue all search engines… sue everything!! everybody! everywhere!!

update: perhaps absolutely everyone should start using things like: oneswarm, tor, torrentprivacy, securep2p, wisperwall, etc

pulse audio crap!

installed (or rater, upgraded to) ubuntu 9.04 beta yesterday… most things looks and feels very good, except for a few things. especially the crappy pulse audio. i had a completely fine audio setup, two soundcards, one integrated, on the motherboard, for gnome/desktop stuff, and a m-audio audiophile 2496 dedicated to jack and music work. but pulse audio messes up everything, deciding to use the m-audio for the desktop, hiding the on-board card, not letting me manually choose which card i want to use, and the mixer icon/appled has disappeared from the gnome panel, so i can’t even change the audio volume…

crap..  hopefully removing the premature, unfinished pulse audio crap won’t ruin something else…

but then again, i know this is a beta, and i should expect some glitches like this one, so, maybe (just maybe), i should try to get pulseaudio to work as intended first… we’ll see

[edit 3.apr.09]:

it was quite simple to fix:

sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio
sudo apt-get install esound

ignored the warning about removing ubuntu-desktop. it’s just a meta-package, and doesn’t remove anything..

phew! back to good, old, working alsa.

manes – reinvention

last.fm decided to turn into a pay-service (except for some selected countries), so i removed the latest manes release, the “reinvention” remix album from there. and, lacking a proper manes domain or site, i decided to put them here for the time being, but don’t expect them to be stay here forever… download them if you want them…

[edit: crap, can't upload mp3 files here... so, they're here: http://sites.google.com/site/manesreinvention/files ]

but i can have mp3 player linking to those:

deeprooted – rune sørgård – fox treatment

son of night brother of sleep – dj don tomaso – 3 stages (manes rmx 2)

the cure-all – rachmiel – lost time

the cure-all – rune sørgård

the cure-all – shadow orchestra

zweiss – ecological mix
